A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
The annual installation of officers was held on December 17, 2000, and Grand Master of Masons David C. Decker was the installing officer. It was a fine affair and the entire afternoon and evening went very well. In January the first stated meeting started off with business as usual. It seems the lodge was going to be very active with all of the items that were discussed this evening.
In February, Deputy Grand Master C. Ray Whitaker, came to Clovis Lodge and gave a talk about supporting the widows of the lodge, and together with WM Bradway presented the ladies with a gift. Also in February there were discussions at the stated meeting about Clovis school activities and the first "Cabaret Night" was discussed for the very first time.
At the March stated meeting it was discussed to ask the Rainbow Girls if they would be interested in cleaning and pressing the aprons used in lodge. It should also be reported that the girls did indeed do the job and the aprons look brand new now...thank you girls. It was also decided to spend money to advertise in the Chamber of Commerce newsletter to inform the community of some of our upcoming events.
On March 17th the lodge traveled to Cambria, Ca. for a third degree at San Simeon Lodge #196. It seemed that everyone who attended had a great time and it was also the weekend for the Masters Night out. The Masters Night out was a program started by WM Bradway where several members of the lodge and their wives or families went to dinner together and then they also picked a new restaurant for the next month. It was and still is a very popular program.
In April we donated money to one of the schools for there "Sober Graduation" and the lodge was informed by the financial board that our finances had taken a big hit in the stock market and that we should curtail our spending for awhile. In May there was a proposal made for the raising of the dues $10.00 per year, it was to be voted on in September. Later in May the Past Master's of Clovis Lodge put on a third degree for Brother Avila. They were in rare form that night and did an excellent job on the degree.
In June there was a discussion about raising the price of the breakfast to $4.00 instead of $3.00, it went down in defeat. Later in the month there was a triple third degree done on one Thursday evening, it had been quite some time since we had to do three degrees in one evening. It should also be mentioned that people were joining Clovis Lodge by affiliation and by petitioning for membership. Clovis Lodge has always been and will continue to be a Lodge on the move.
In July the Senior Warden resigned for the remainder of the year and the schools were still going strong needing help to close out the school year. Brother T. Hansen was awarded the prestigious "Mason of the Year" award given by the Fresno Valley of the Scottish Rite. The Scottish Rite has adopted this program to give praise to some of the unsung heroes of Masonry, the brother's who do work and are a lot of the times not really recognized for their efforts.
In the month of August it was again discussed to raise the price of the breakfast to $4.00, again going down in defeat...if at first you don't succeed, try again heheheh. The Lodge also manned a bank of telephones for the local television station, Channel 18, valley public television, an extensive amount of funds were raised to help channel 18.
In September there was a golden veteran award given to Avon Reyburn PM. Brother Reyburn comes from a long line of family members who have all joined Clovis Lodge and at one time there were enough of his family to put degrees on by themselves. The vote on the dues increase also went down to defeat...seems like no one wanted to spend any money this year. Two new schools were added to the bike program.
In November elections were held and Brother Jim Cummings was elected to become Master for the ensuing year, but no wardens were elected.
Brethren lost in this year were.
